Is Solana Legal in China?

The legal status of SOL under PBoC, and what the ban actually covers.

Solana trading is banned in China

All crypto trading, exchange operation, and token issuance has been illegal in mainland China since 2021. In February 2026, the PBoC and other authorities expanded the ban further to explicitly cover real-world-asset tokenization and offshore yuan-pegged stablecoins, closing loopholes that previously let residents access offshore exchanges or peer-to-peer settlement. Simple possession is rarely prosecuted, but trading, brokering, or operating a platform carries real legal risk — account freezes, fines, and potential criminal liability.

This page exists to state the legal position accurately, not to route around it. If you're in mainland China, the honest answer is: don't.
